Did you know that women were not required to be included in US clinical research until 1993? The NIH Revitalization Act of 1993 was signed into law on June 10th and established the setup of guidelines for the inclusion of women and minorities in clinical research. This year, we are joining other organizations, such as Evvy, around the country to celebrate #EqualResearchDay because it is time that we close the gender gap in clinical research.
The statistics on inclusion of women and other genders in clinical research is appalling. Twice as much funding goes to studying diseases prevalent in men compared to diseases prevalent in women. There is also much less understanding in clinical research about the female body due to under research and under-inclusion of women in clinical research. The road for inclusive trials must address this disparity in research.
We have worked with amazing advocacy groups who have showcased the need for more women and other genders to be included in clinical trials. We want to raise their voices and commit to understanding how we can support inclusive recruitment on our projects. Join us in advocating for addressing the gender parity in research by sharing #EqualResearchDay on your networks.
